Dynasty Recap

There was a week to go before their AL only fantasy league draft and suddenly it was found out they had a team without an owner. A high school friend posted on facebook the need to fill the owner and so I sold some Lewis Black black tickets and bought in. The team info was sent to me, II was told I could keep 11 guys and their total would be taken off my 260 auction total. Then Sunday night we would do the remainder of the auction via conference call.

Sully’s 7: AL Prospects that will help in 2013

Each year fantasy baseball is a long strange journey for me. The only league I pay to play in is an 8 team AL only 4×4 rotisserie league with highly competitive adversaries. We have no add/drop, and no waiver wire, we meet once a month and draft anyone not yet on a roster. Those not on rosters can be prospects, players new to the AL from the NL or a guy who just went undrafted for whatever reason. To try and gain a major advantage I do extensive research on prospects so as to grab the guys who could be major contributors sooner rather than later. The other advantage to having a deep knowledge of the available pool of players in these drafts is that this is the only place from where we can choose keepers. For example 2 years ago at our July draft I selected Matt Moore, the Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher. He only had a cup of coffee in 2011 for the Rays, but in 2012 was a better than average fantasy starter the entire season. With that in mind the following list of 7 players should help your fantasy team THIS season. This is of course barring major injury or a trade to an NL team at some point. Continue reading

Bunting for a Hit: Day late, Dollar Short

The Olympic torches goal is to keep the flame lit eternally its entire way from Greece to the host site of the Olympics. Every time the journey is mapped out a fair amount of gimmicks are thought up to bring attention to the journey and to publicize the upcoming games. This year a white water rafting trip was planned. Who the fuck’s idea was that? And have they been fired yet? Fire’s mortal enemy is water so lets pair them together in a way where we can’t predict what the water may do! And for those playing along at home, yes it was extinguished. Shocking. The spin is that they carry a mining lantern, also lit in Greece, near the torch as a backup eternal flame and use it to relight the torch. I think they misunderstand the word eternal, which isn’t surprising since they misunderstood that fire shouldn’t be around water in a chaotic and hectic manner. Well anyway the Olympics are ruined for me now! Continue reading

2012 MLB Fantasy Preview Part 1

When reading this list of my top 1501 MLB fantasy position players2 it is important to remember a couple of points.
  • The rank 1-150 starts with the METRIC number3 and then I add my eyeballs to the ranks based on any number of things, but mostly age, team, league and trend.
  • The easiest way to understand my rankings is probably this, if I were to do a draft all by myself Team 1 would get Miguel Cabrera, 1anked #1, Team 2 would get Evan Longoria, ranked #2 and so on. Make sense? Questions to @HookingFoul or HookingFoul@gmail.com
  • Players with less than 2 full MLB seasons have had 1 or 2 500 at bat seasons extrapolated for them and included in their metric.4
  • Throughout the list I single players out and comment on them because I like them or find their stats intriguing.
  1. 50 now, 100 next week []
  2. pitchers this afternoon []
  3. that number is a formula of my own creation an is heavily weighed towards power production because the league I spend the most time on rewards power production heavily []
  4. Players with less than 1 have had 2, players with less than 2 have had 1 []
