Every year around this time I write a “State of the Red Sox Nation” report. I’ve never done it for all of New England sports, and since I’m hating on the Red Sox, probably the most I ever have, I’m going to cover all the teams so I don’t write ten thousand words on how much I hate she who will not be named on this blog.
There is a shit ton going on right now in sports. 3 of the major leagues are in game operation, with the NFL being in full swing as the playoff picture begins to take shape. Don’t forget about college football either as we approach the ridiculous number of “bowl” games, but even with all those meaningless bowls in the mix, it doesn’t mean that I didn’t watch 2 incredible football games Saturday with THE Ohio State University vs. Michigan and the Auburn beating the 2 time reigning National Champion Alabama on a play that has to compare with only a walk off grand slam in terms of game ending plays. Major League Baseball’s hot stove is starting to pick up even in a down free agent year. NBC won’t let us forget that the Winter Olympics are going to happen in Russia, but until they reunite Tonya, Nancy and a crowbar I don’t know that I’m super interested. Unless I can figure out how to make or join a curling pool. I saw those guys in picture at a Bosstones Throwdown in 2011 I think! Continue reading
The baseball season is upon us and there has already been some great action. Clayton Kershaw not only starts opening day for the Dodgers, but throws a complete game shutout and provides all the offense his team would need with a homer run to lead off the 8th. The Astros started their new life as an American League team with a win over their cross state rival Texas Rangers. Bryce Harper started his sophomore season with a bang, actually 2 bangs, as he homered in his first 2 at bats, providing Stephen Strasburg with plenty of support as the Washington Nationals began their run at a World Series title. Sully’s note: This is the first article published on Hooking Foul not written by me. I’m very happy to have it be from Jay who, while he hasn’t written anything for the site until now, has been an integral part of HF since its inception and his influence can be seen everywhere.
It’s time to come clean, I love baseball. Yep…love it. Watch it damn near every day in season, take part in several fantasy leagues and proudly (well, somewhat proudly) wear a baseball cap nearly year round. While I realize that it’s wildly unpopular among the nerderati to take part in anything “sportsball” related, I just don’t give a fuck. While I’ve never been one to follow the crowd, I can’t help but find it incredibly tedious to have to defend my love of the game. Continue reading
I hate Nick Saban, but god damn the man knows how to win a College Football National Championship. At this rate he will be far and away the best coach in the history of college football. I haven’t come to that conclusion mildly either. Look at the history of just the last 4 years. 3 titles and 11 first round picks, 8 in the last 2 NFL drafts. Its unprecedented and terrifying because he isn’t going to leave, and they sure aren’t going to ask him too without a scandal of Paterno like proportions. Continue reading
